Transfers

• Second semester 2018 transfers

  Second-semester transfers apply to schools that are not magnet schools. (For magnet school transfers click the "Magnet Schools" tab above.)

  • Nov. 27 - Dec. 8, 2017: You may apply for a transfer to neighborhood schools for second semester of the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Dec. 15, 2017: The transfer office will mail letters of acceptance or denial to parents/students.
  • We approve transfers based on available space at the requested school.
  • All transfer students who are not enrolled in a magnet program are NOT ELIGIBLE for transportation.

  How to apply:

  1. Pick up an application at the Enrollment Center or download the application below.
  2. Complete the application.
  3. The legal guardian must submit completed applications, current proof of address and photo ID. Provide in person to the Enrollment Center or email to tpstransfers@tulsaschools.org.

• Transfers from other schools within TPS

  Neighborhood Transfers for 2018-2019

  Neighborhood transfers are transfers to schools that are not magnet schools. We approve in-district neighborhood transfers based on space available in the requested grade at the requested school.

  The current state budget crisis may affect our district funding for the 2018-19 school year. Our neighborhood transfer approval/denied notifications could be delayed until late July.

  We will accept applications for transfer to neighborhood schools for the 2018-2019 on the following dates:

  • April 16-27, 2018
  • July 5-17, 2018

  Applications will be available to print and bring to the Enrollment Center during the transfer dates listed above.

  2. Print and fill out the form.
  3. Submit the transfer application to the Enrollment Center (address above).
     The guardian must provide current proof of address and a photo ID.

• Transfers from other public school districts to Tulsa Public Schools

  If a student does not live in Tulsa Public Schools district, but wants to attend a TPS school:

  • OPEN transfer: This transfer is requested between January 1 and May 31 for the following school year.
    • Guardians must submit requests to Tulsa Public Schools.
    • TPS can approve or deny an open transfer.
    • The sending school district cannot deny this type of transfer.
    • This type of transfer is good for one year and must be renewed each year.
  • EMERGENCY transfer: This transfer is used during a school year for reasons established by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. (see below)
    • Guardians must submit requests to Tulsa Public Schools.
    • The sending school district can deny approval of an emergency transfer.
    • Emergency transfers are only valid during the applied for school year.
    • This type of transfer may be approved only if specific conditions are met. (see below)

• Transfers from Tulsa Public Schools to other public school districts

  If a student lives in the Tulsa Public Schools district, but would like to attend another school district, he or she must have an out-of-district transfer. There are two types:

  • OPEN transfer: This transfer is requested between January 1 and May 31 for the following school year.
    • Guardians must submit a transfer request to the receiving school district.
    • The receiving school district will approve or deny an open transfer.
  • EMERGENCY transfer: This transfer is used during a school year for reasons established by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. (see below)
    • Guardians must submit a transfer request to the receiving school district.
    • Tulsa Public schools can deny approval of an emergency transfer.
    • Emergency transfers are only valid during the applied for school year.
    • This type of transfer may be approved only if specific conditions are met. (see below)

• View specific conditions for an emergency transfer:

  (according to the Oklahoma State Department of Education)

  1. Destruction or partial destruction of a school building;
  2. Inability to offer the subject a pupil desires to pursue if the pupil becomes a legal resident of a school district after February 1 of the school year immediately prior to the school year for which the pupil is seeking the transfer;
  3. Catastrophic medical problem of a student which for purposes of this section shall mean an acute or chronic serious illness, disease, disorder or injury which has a permanently detrimental effect on the body’s system or renders the risk unusually hazardous;
  4. Total failure of transportation facilities; (school-provided transportation/bus service)
  5. Concurrence of both the Sending and Receiving Districts. SDE requires the Sending District Superintendent to sign the application.
  6. Unavailability of a specialized deaf education program for a student who is deaf or hearing impaired;
  7. Unavailability of remote or on-site internet-based instruction (by course title) for a student identified as in need of drop-out recover or alternative education services, provided such student was enrolled at any time in a public school in this state during the previous three years in the district of residence 70 O.S. § 8-104.
  8. When a student has been the victim of harassment, intimidation and bullying as defined in Title 70 O.S. § 24-100.3, upon verification by the Receiving District that the student has been the victim of harassment, intimidation or bullying, and that the Sending District was notified of the incident(s) prior to the filing of the application for transfer.
