Community Volunter Opportunities

A number of significant volunteer opportunities exist in the community to positively impact the children of Tulsa Public Schools and surrounding areas. Listed below are several opportunities and links.

Partners in Education is a collaborative effort between the Tulsa Regional Chamber and Tulsa Public Schools. The program's focus is to link TPS students with community resources in order to provide the knowledge and skills needed for future success. Partners and schools choose their level of involvement, which may include (but not limited to) volunteering within the school, in-kind contributions or financial assistance. To view current Partners in Education success stories or for more information visit www.PartnersInEdTulsa.com.

Reading Partners is a national nonprofit, that partners with elementary schools. Our volunteer reading partners (community tutors) help students struggling with reading develop the foundational skills they need to succeed in school and in life. Reading Partners is an evidence-based and community-driven organization. We recruit and train each volunteer to work one-on-one with a student for an hour per week. To volunteer with Reading Partners in Tulsa go to www.readingpartners.org.

Big Brothers and Sisters. An in-depth mentoring program for men and women who desire to have an impact on a child in need of a positive, caring presence. Mentors are required to attend training sessions, commit to spending time with the child, and pass a background check. More information is available at www.bbbsok.org.

Educational Surrogate Parents Program. All students need parental support to succeed. The Educational Surrogate Parents Program responds to the need for support and representation of students with disabilities whose parents are not available.
This program relies on the commitment of volunteers who support a student’s education by advocating for him/her to ensure that the student receives a free and appropriate public education. View the Surrogate Parent flyer.
