How TPS Decides and Communicates School Closings

TPS is committed to an exceptional education for every student, every day. In inclement weather conditions, the district staff and leadership team use three guiding principles to decide emergency school closings.

  1. Time spent in the classroom is integral to preparing students for academic success.
  2. Students and staff must be able to get to and from school safely.
  3. Parents and guardians must have adequate time to make arrangements for transportation or childcare.

We announce emergency closing by 5:30 a.m. on closing days.

Unless weather conditions dictate otherwise, the Education Service Center will open on days when schools are closed. All 12‑month employees at district facilities must report to their regularly assigned positions at the announced start time of the ESC or as directed by their supervisor.

Local media will typically NOT announce information about the ESC, visit  www.tulsaschools.org for updates.
